Rotten Fascia Board Repairs in Wigan

Rot concentrated in one short length of fascia often means water is arriving there from somewhere else.

Look higher up

A cracked slate, leaking gutter joint, damaged felt or valley can send water to the eaves. Old underlay sometimes sags behind the fascia and holds water like a shallow concealed gutter.

Check rafter ends

Once the fascia is open, look at the timber behind it. Surface staining is different from soft structural timber. If decay extends into rafter ends, the scope of work changes.

Useful when arranging a visit: keep one wide photograph showing the roof area as well as any close-up. A close-up on its own often hides the position of the fault.

Capping is not a repair for wet timber

UPVC can be useful, but covering rotten timber without dealing with water ingress simply hides it. The roof edge still needs a proper route into the gutter.

Refit the gutter carefully

New fascia work can alter bracket levels. After the repair, the gutter should still sit correctly beneath the roof edge and fall towards the outlet.
